Returning to The Source

IMG_0015 croppedIreland’s travelling marionette theatre are returning to their roots – or to “The Source” – when we will be part of the Family Fun Day at The Source Arts Centre and Library in Thurles on Saturday, 20th June 2015.

We hope to bring a traditional fairytale to life when the Moon & Sixpence Puppet Theatre will perform our version of Red Riding Hood at 1:30pm and 3pm.

The production is a cheeky version of Red Riding Hood, which features the classic fairy-tale characters and a talking dustbin, who encourages children to pick up litter. This string puppet production includes a moral in the tale, showing the importance of patience and friendship. The show, lasting fifty minutes, is performed live with music and sound effects and draws plenty of audience participation, as much from adults as from children.

The origins of the Moon and Sixpence Puppet Theatre go back to the early 1980s and was the brainchild of two young men from Tipperary, Pat Lanigan-Ryan and Martin Molony. Originally based in Thurles, the two friends set up Ireland’s only travelling marionette theatre, visiting schools and festivals in the four corners of Ireland.

We’re delighted to be going “home” on Saturday. If you’re in the area, do drop by!
